Anshu Gupta - The Real Hero of Society

This hero named “Anshu Gupta” 41 years old is not unsung now, he is very known among active citizens of India. He started group called GOONJ (www.goonj.org), based at Delhi for bridging the gap between India's underutilized resources and India's unaddressed needs. Among the most common basic needs of humans – Roti, Kapda aur Makan (Food, Cloth and Shelter), Clothing has lost its importance amidst the huge number of brands and choices, but many communities in India are still deprived of this basic need which most of us take for granted. GOONJ works to “make clothes a matter of concern”. Goonj collects underutilized clothes and other materials from urban homes, and uses them as resources for poor. Anshu Gupta, a person who believes in ‘Lage Raho’ attitude says, “I never followed any conventions; I didn’t know anybody who could guide me. I made my own rules for approaching people, giving presentations and fundraising.”

Now GOONJ runs 60 collection centres that in addition to clothes, distributes shoes, utensils, bags, books and other essentials to the have-nots in the hinterland.

“Unsung Heroes in India” group salutes you Anshu, in this mission we all are with you.
